From July 10 to August 4,2023, the School of Nursing of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University invited 4 undergraduates from the School of Nursing, Tongji Medical College of HUST to a 4-week Inbound Student Exchange Program.
The exchange program was carried out in the form of online and on-site. From July 10 to July 23, students engaged in e-learning with the aim of practicing independent learning skills and warming up to the studies in Hong Kong. Students logged onto the official authorized platform of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University and integrated into different groups to conduct cross-cultural discussions with people from 13 top tier universities in China, Australia, Switzerland, Singapore, so as to promote mutual understanding.
From July 24 to August 4, 4 students went to The Hong Kong Polytechnic University for on-site learning, including academic lectures, cooperative research, site visits and cultural exchanges. The academic lectures covered the use of isolation equipment, VR simulation teaching, humanistic care model, and Chinese medicine theory. Students had in-depth discussions with academics from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University and exchanges with nursing students from all over the world, gaining a multi-dimensional understanding of medical research and teaching models in different countries and regions. This enhanced their professionalism while deep friendships developed among them.
During the site visit session, students visited a number of healthcare organizations in Hong Kong, including A&E Emergency Departments, First Aid Stations, Nursing Homes, and Intelligent Elderly Home Experience Museum. Students deeply experienced the management model of Hong Kong's healthcare organizations, and learned the impact of different types of healthcare service systems amongst community residents. They have gained a deeper understanding of the international healthcare institutions, service models and optimization strategies, laying a solid foundation for future clinical practice.
Four students from the School of Nursing stood out in the presentation of the closing ceremony, and their teams all achieved outstanding results.
