On December 14th, 2020，the School of Nursing conducted the Graduate Student-Supervisors’ training on the 4thfloor of the School of Nursing Building, in order to implement the ideas of the National Education Conference and the National Postgraduate Education Conference, as well as to serve the overall Double-Class situation of the university and continue to promote the development of postgraduate education of nursing. Prof. Ma Yanlin, dean of the Graduate School, was invited to give a lecture, in which all graduate student-supervisors within the School of Nursing, and the affiliated Tongji hospital, Union hospital and Liyuan hospital were invited. Teachers in charge of postgraduate work also attended the meeting.
Firstly, Prof. Mao Jing, dean of School of Nursing, introduced the development of the School of Nursing since they implemented the unified enrollment and unified management policy. She said that the enrollment plan and the substantial improvement of the quality of the next generation of students will bring huge opportunities and challenges to graduate education as well to accelerate discipline constructions.
Prof. Ma Yanlin emphasized the importance of graduate education and the necessity of supervisors fostering virtue through education with four aspects: the original aspiration and mission of education, the historical position of graduate education in China, the development trend and problems of our university’s graduate education, the responsibilities of supervisors as well as the issues that should be paid attention to when performing responsibilities. She pointed out that the general guiding ideology of postgraduate students’ work is supposed to be doing everything possible to improve the quality of cultivation, especially to improve the innovative ability of graduate students. Prof. Ma Yanlin hoped that all supervisors could adhere to the consistency of teaching and educating, unify verbal instructions and personal example, teach in accordance with students’ aptitude, and be a guide for the growth of graduate students.
Later on, Ms Xu Hui emphasized that the country and the university should pay great attention to standardize teachers with three aspects: the importance of strengthening the construction of teacher ethics, the full-process management of teacher ethics as well as focusing on key nodes and key areas and so on. She also passed on the concept of “ Moral Education" to all the supervisors.
Then, graduate student counselor Li Yufeng explained two documents, "The School of Nursing Quality Standards for Masters Degree Applications" and "The School of Nursing Quality Standards for Doctoral Degree Applications". She also introduced the regulations on masters’ and doctoral education in School of Nursing as well as the specific requirements of the supervisors, etc. Director Jin Tao reported on the ideas and arrangement of the Fifth Round of Discipline Evaluation, the application profile of nursing disciplines, the deficiencies in the last round of evaluation as well as the recommendations of this round.
At the end of the meeting, Dean Mao Jing expressed gratitude to all participants. She concluded that with the higher requirements of the country and the university, the School of Nursing needs to continuously improve the quality of postgraduate education as well as our supervisory system. It is also necessary to keep improving supervisors' educational ability and further implement their responsibilities of fostering virtue through education as well as to establish a solid foundation for cultivating outstanding graduate students.
