“Applied Statistics For Evidence-Based Practice”Course Successfully Reaches its Conclusion

From July 25thto 29th, 2022, utilizing the platform of the 2022 Tongji Summer School(TJSS2022),Professor Dianxu REN, Director for Statistical and Data Support Services at Center for Research & Education (CRE) at School of Nursing, University of Pittsburgh, was invited by the School of Nursing, Tongji Medical College of HUST to teach the English course titled“Applied Statistics For Evidence-Based Practice”in both online and offline format.More than 330 young scholars from 57 universities in 30 countries or regions around the world successfully completed the course.

The course was divided into five topics including Descriptive Statistics, Hypotheses Testing and Commonly Used Statistical Procedures, Linear Regression Model, Logistic Regression Model as well as Power Calculation and Meta-anlyses. Professor REN incorporated concept analysis and case studies into the course to guide students a better understanding and grasp of basic statistical methods.

In the discussion session, students worked in groups to dissect the graphs and parameters in the research paper. Their independent learning skills and team spirit were greatly enhanced in the interaction with the professor.

During the 5-day course, students enlarged their international perspective and harvested a great understanding of the importance of statistics in scientific research.All participants benefited from the course a lot and expressed their gratitude to the professor.

In responding to and learning from these challenges, Tongji Medical College(TJMC)of HUST launched the first-ever Tongji Summer Program in 2021, offering emerging medical leaders worldwide a unique interdisciplinary platform to be immersed and inspired.Organized collaboratively by 6 schools from TJMC, TJSS2022 was held from July11 to August5. It covers diverse topics in medical disciplines including epidemiology, clinical medicine, nutrition, reproductive health, health management and traditional Chinese medicine, etc. Through a tailor-made curriculum featuring both theoretical lectures and innovative and interactive activities, participants will explore innovative methods to build their sustainable development.
